Quran: And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together & do not become divided.(3/103) O you who have believed, fear Allah. & let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - & fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.(59/18) He decreed for you the same religion decreed for Noah, & what we inspired to you, & what we decreed for Abraham, Moses, & Jesus: "You shall uphold this one religion, & do not divide it."(42:13). The Creation of the Angels

The Creation of the Angels

Muslim transmitted in his Sahih from Ayesha Radhiyallahu anha; that the Beloved Prophet (Pbuh) may Allah bless him & grants him peace, said:

“The angels were created from light. The jinn were created from fire. Man was created from what has been described to you.” Ibn Hajar said in the Faith & mentioned in Rabi’ al-Abrar that Sa’id b. al-Musayyab said, “The angels are neither male nor female. They neither eat nor drink. They do not marry nor have children.” The angels are free of all animal appetites & are unadulterated by any selfish inclination.

Almighty-Allah called the angels “slaves” & honored them by the fact of their being connected to His name, the All-Merciful. He made it clear that those who think that they are female are not right because they say this with no knowledge.

Almighty-Allah says:

“They have designated the angels’ female, those who are the slaves of the Merciful. Were they present to witness their creation? Their witnessing will be written down & they will be asked about it.” (43: 19)

Allah – glory be to Him! – criticized those who described the angels as being female & stripped such people of the attribute of belief, saying:

“Those who do not believe in the Next World name the angels with the names of females. They do- not have any knowledge of it. They only follow supposition, & supposition is of no avail at all against the Truth.” (53:27)

Angels are a creation of Allah. They were created from light. In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Ayesha (Radhiyallahu Anha) that the Beloved Prophet (Pbuh) said, “The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from smokeless fire, & Adam was created from that which has been described to you.”

The Beloved Prophet (Pbuh) did not explain the light with which the angels were created from. Hence, we cannot indulge into discussing it as it is a matter of the unseen concerning which no further clarification has been narrated.

Similarly, we do not know when the angels were created, for Allah has not informed us about it. But we do know from the stories of Adam & Angels mentioned in the Holy Quran & the Ahadith that they were surely created before mankind. Almighty-says in the Holy Quran, “When your Lord said to the angels, ‘I am placing a caliph (i.e., mankind) on the earth…” [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 30] The fact that Almighty-informed them of His Intention to create man indicates that they already existed.

Seeing the Angels

“Because the Angels have bodies of light which are of low density, mankind cannot see them; especially since Allah has not given our eyes the ability to see them. No one among this Ummah has seen the angels in their true form apart from the Messenger. He saw Jibrael twice in the form which Allah created him.

The texts indicate that human beings are able to see the angels when they appear in human forms.” [See, Aalam al-Malaai’kah al-Abrar]
